Have you identified a series of sixteen letters that can spell the one word answer?

You’ll need one letter from each line of text, and the phrase “humble beginnings” is a big clue for which letters to focus on.

Taking the first letter from each line of text, from top to bottom, spells the answer OTHERWORLDLINESS.

That's all the hints I have for this puzzle. The next click will reveal the answer as well as a quick breakdown of the intended method for arriving at the answer.

Have you treated the first part of the story's title, “Humble Beginnings”, as a clue for what to focus on?

Well you should! This puzzle largely revolves around interpreting this clue!

It’s no coincidence that the answer is a sixteen letter word and the story has sixteen lines of text.

You’ll need to use the same method the brave knight used to deal with these dragons.

Have you worked out which info about the dragons to focus on?

The dragons’ odd names will be the main focus of this puzzle.

Have you worked out a method for manipulating this info?

You might not be able to physically rip out a dragon’s heart. But you can certainly rip the letters “H-E-A-R-T” out of each dragon’s name.

Have you identified eight letters that can be used to spell the one word answer?

The name of each dragon should be manipulated to result in a few remaining letters. The first three dragons will each yield two remaining letters, and the last two dragons will each yield one letter.

The order to consider the dragons is the same order they’re mentioned in the story. The first two letters you should get from the first dragon are “I-N”.

If you remove the letters H-E-A-R-T from the names of each dragon, you’ll be left with “I-N” from the Hairnet dragon, “F-E” from the Feather dragon, “C-T” from the Chatter dragon. “E” from the Aether dragon, and “D” from Hatred. The answer is INFECTED.

That's all the hints I have for this puzzle. The next click will reveal the answer as well as a quick breakdown of the intended method for arriving at the answer.
